Tasta Americas launches its exclusive unified response module for active school shootings and critical events.

Tasta Americas implements its security platform in multiple schools in the United States, funded 100% by federal funds. This system is certified by FirstNet, is compatible with RapidSOS, and complies with NFPA 3000 standards and Alyssa laws across the country.

“This is not a standard solution, but rather a methodology that allows first responders to act quickly, accurately and with minimal loss of human life. There is no other comparable software on the market with our capabilities. The benefit of our solution is that it can be used for daily communications, making the system intuitive during critical events,” says Tim Brown, a retired police officer with 30 years of experience and vice president of Public Safety at TASSTA Americas.

During the development of the solution, safety standards were taken into account. It was certified by FirstNet and its compatibility with Android, Apple and Windows devices was assured. Finally, tests were carried out with satellite communications in anticipation of the future adoption of this technology.

Solution Highlights

  • It allows first responders to communicate from their mobile phones with two-way radios, extending coverage beyond the range of repeaters and inside buildings with poor radio signals.
  • It makes it easier for police, firefighters and school personnel to operate in a unified system, with specific configurations that keep communications secure and independent for each agency during normal operations. This ensures compliance with FERPA and CJIS standards.

How does it work?

In the event of a threat or incident on a school campus, both teachers and staff have access to a panic button. When activated, audio, video and GPS locations are sent in real time to first responders and the 911 center through integration with RapidSOS. Mutual support units can gain instant access by simply dialing a phone number, ensuring that all responders can communicate during the different phases of the critical event. Information from 911 calls can be transmitted live to police officers to provide updated data in real time.

The training recommends that, once a confinement occurs, the Unified Command send silent messages to each classroom to verify the status of injuries. These locations are recorded in the Command Center, where rescue operations are immediately planned. Depending on the local agency's decision, the system can allow the Unified Command Center to remotely activate audio and video from any device if a staff member doesn't respond. This allows first responders to see clearly through doors and walls with critical information in real time.

Carlos Fernández, CEO of TASSTA Americas, said: “During the implementation and design phases, we seek guidance from those on the front lines and create a program with sufficient flexibility to meet diverse local needs.”
